When Can College Coaches Contact You? Recruiting Rules by Division
"Why hasn't a coach reached out yet?" usually comes down to timing rules, not interest.
Division I
Coaches cannot initiate recruiting-related contact until June 15 after your sophomore year, or September 1 of your junior year, depending on sport.
What changes on your sport's contact date: coaches can call, text, email, and DM you directly.
Division II
Electronic communication is allowed at any time.
Off-campus, in-person contact generally can't start until June 15 before your junior year.
Division III
Electronic communication is allowed at any time.
Off-campus, in-person contact can generally begin once you've completed your sophomore year.
NAIA
NAIA schools don't have NCAA-style contact date restrictions at all.
What This Means for You
You can reach out to any coach, at any level, at any time.
Build your recruiting profile before your sport's contact date opens.
Don't read D1 silence as disinterest before the contact date.
Bottom Line
Division level changes everything about recruiting timing.
